Nashville, Tenn. - Saint Thomas Health Services announced today the launch of Life Therapies, a new division of Outpatient Rehabilitation Services, which will offer specialized therapy to patients in a unique, soothing environment.
"At Saint Thomas Health Services, we understand that recovering from an accident or illness or dealing with a chronic disease can be an emotionally and physically difficult experience. As a healthcare ministry, it was important to us to be able to provide our patients with the type of intensive rehabilitation they need in a comfortable environment conducive to healing," said Jim Houser, president and CEO of Saint Thomas Health Services.
In conjunction with Baptist Sports Medicine physical therapy clinics, Life Therapies clinics will offer rehabilitation services for patients dealing with health issues including:
- Lymphedema: An accumulation of lymph fluid in the arms, legs, or trunk that typically occurs after cancer or cancer treatments such as the surgical removal of lymph nodes and/or radiation.
- Neurological conditions that most often are the result of a stroke, traumatic brain injury, Parkinson's disease, Multiple Sclerosis, Cerebral Palsy, spinal cord injuries or balance disorders.
- Vestibular disorders related to a sense of imbalance such as vertigo, dizziness, that result from a stroke, head injury or concussion, a history of inner ear problems or diabetes.
- Pediatric: Developmental disabilities relating to fine motor skills, visual motor skills, balance, coordination and speech disorders that can be improved through physical, occupational and speech therapy.
- Women's health: Issues ranging from urinary and fecal incontinence, pelvic floor pain and dysfunction, interstitial cystitis, lower back pain with pregnancy, sexual dysfunction and endometriosis.

"This will aid the patient in meeting their medical needs while providing them the emotional support in this unique rehabilitative environment. In addition, the wide range of rehabilitation services offered allows Life Therapies clinics to serve a much needed patient audience who often do not realize there is treatment for their ailments," said Nessler.
Currently, Saint Thomas Health Services Outpatient Rehabilitation Services is home to the largest lymphedema and neurological rehabilitation programs in Middle Tennessee and hopes to further grow these programs with the addition of the Life Therapies division.
Patients are able to choose from six Life Therapies locations: Baptist Medical Plaza I located in downtown Nashville, Green Hills, Maryland Farms in Brentwood, Spring Hill and two clinics in Murfreesboro.
Life Therapies clinics are staffed by licensed physical, occupational and speech therapists with an average of 16 years experience each in their respective specialties. Each clinic focuses on the patient experience, as well as on a strong clinical program, thus providing a unique approach to traditional rehabilitation.
